July found me looking for a new mechanic (mine retired). I went to 27th St. Auto for an oil change. They convinced me (because I had forgotten it had been done) I needed a full tune up, charging $100/oil change; $80 for air filter; almost $200 for spark plugs..their prices are higher than dealers. I was in the car, not thinking, and agreed to the work w/o an estimate. They said they did a bumper to bumper inspection. I went to other mechanics in the area finding, even if I did need the work, they gouged by at least $300. Going to another mechanic last week for an early oil change, I need front bushings, ball joints and a rear wheel a knuckle assembly; the wheel has a good 3 inches of play. These are wear issues a maintenance inspection would find-it doesn't happen overnight. ..
